This beauty blog is a part of a portfolio of websites and the owner wanted to diversify traffic and income by having one site that drives traffic mainly from Pinterest.
The blog is under 2 years old but had over 50 published articles that were an excellent fit for Pinterest, so I knew I had my work cut out for me!
Where I Started
The Pinterest account was fairly new, so I had to be very careful not to trigger any spam filters on Pinterest.
I started with an account audit, reviewing what content works the best on the account and finding some untapped opportunities where Pinterest doesn’t have exact match content to display.
After a few days of keyword research, I optimized the account, boards and articles to ensure they can perform their best on Pinterest.
Next, I worked with the client to prepare seasonal content well in advance to make sure we can leverage it when we hit Q4, which is great for traffic.
Here are the account analytics before I got started, taken for September 2023;
- September Impressions: 7.54 million
- September Outbound Clicks: 7.16k
- September Saves: 17.02k
- Followers on Account: 1.2k
- Group Boards: none

Why It Worked
The beauty niche might be a little saturated on Pinterest, but if you dive deeper, you will see that most people sharing content have no idea what they are doing.
There are a lot of missed opportunities for keyword optimization. Having an account that’s very niche-focused gave this client the boost it needed for things to pick up really fast.
When choosing content for Pinterest, I focused on high-quality images that drew a lot of attention and hand-picked only the content that would perform the best. The client also had very limited options for pin images with overlay, which I worked on.
I mapped out many new boards with a very niche focus, targeting popular keywords and built content clusters around those. Most competitors did not bother to include board descriptions or make them SEO-optimized, so this was one of my first easy wins.
I have prepared a marketing strategy that moved from sharing a mix of repins and fresh pins, to sharing exclusively fresh pins on this account, with no video or idea pins added. This is what the algorithm currently prefers, and the account was rewarded almost immediately.
I strategically planned the content publishing schedule around seasonal content, which I know is not very well served on Pinterest in this niche, and the results have proven I was right.
As expected, I saw a massive surge in impressions and traffic in December (see screenshots bellow):
- December Impressions: 27.61 million
- December Outbound Clicks: 74.83k
- December Saves: 86.79k
- Followers on Account: 1.200
- Group Boards: none
Keep in mind that this account doesn’t have ANY group boards that would drive the traffic, and the site is under 2 years old, so these results are pretty amazing!

In full disclosure, after the peak in December, the traffic normally levels up, which I share below, with the current levels. The seasonal drop is expected and will pick up again as we head into fall and winter.
Last 30 Days on the Account
This is the screenshot from the last 30 days, showing outbound clicks and data from the analytics:
- Monthly Impressions: 6.65 million
- Outbound Clicks: 8,540
- Total Saves: 23,830
- Followers on Account: 1.700
- Group Boards: none

I am working closely with this client to capitalize on the growth, steadily increase the low-season traffic, and build authority in this niche on Pinterest.
