As a case study, I wanted to share one of my own websites so you can see how far you can take your Pinterest account and how much traffic can be achieved in the seasonal months.
This account is for my lifestyle website, which is almost 9 years old, and most of the growth and traffic came from old well-performing content across a variety of topics.
In 2023, I applied my latest Pinterest marketing strategies to this account to strategically scale it for Q4, allowing me to earn a five-figure monthly income just from display ads.
Where I Started
As I mentioned, this Pinterest account is pretty well established, so I knew I had more room to navigate without worrying about spam filters.
What it lacked was a clear focus and clustering the variety of topics into a clear structure, with well-optimized boards and content based on keyword research.
While it was delivering steady, decent traffic, it didn’t live up to its full potential.
Working with such a large account was quite a challenge because of the amount of boards and content published while ensuring that none of the content that currently delivers traffic will be impacted.
I also couldn’t make too many drastic changes at once and had to map out the action plan over the course of a few weeks.
Here is a screenshot from the summer months, before I started to optimize it further:
- Monthly Impressions: 95.5 million
- Monthly Outbound Clicks: 260,750
- Monthly Saves: 459,840
- Followers: 243,000
- Group Boards: 20 (under 10%)

What I Worked On
I performed an account audit, identifying the content and topics that perform the best for impressions and saves, and built a content strategy around those.
As part of the audit, I clearly mapped out keywords, supporting keywords and built content clusters that will allow me to target the right keywords, with the right content, and at the right time.
The blog had a lot of seasonal content that did not live up to its full potential, so I planned around Q4 topics in the summer, giving the content enough time to rank well in December.
I also audited the boards, archived many group boards, and left only the active ones while adding new optimized boards focused on the new content clusters. Almost all of them lacked proper SEO-optimized descriptions and better title selection, which was an easy and quick win.
I re-created my publishing schedule on Pinterest to give the account a new boost by selecting the best-performing posting times. Not that it matters too much with the new algorithm, but I wanted to ensure that every part of the equation was correctly set up, including posting times.
Last, I made sure all of the new content published aligns with what the algorithm likes the most – good quality fresh pins. I removed all idea pins and videos, and won’t be adding any new ones.
The Results
My personal goal was to keep the momentum going, and to keep the traffic steady at 500k per month.
I hit the goal in December, but with seasonal traffic a drop is very much expected, so I’m working my way around it and building more generic content, so the 500k mark is my standard month for traffic, not a peak.
I am also adding more seasonal content for Q4, to boost the performance of the old content and also give myself more room for growth.
- December Impressions: 143.83 million
- Monthly Outbound Clicks: 528,060
- Monthly Saves: 592,670
- Followers: 249,000
- Group Boards: 20 (under 10%)

Last 30 Days on the Account
As I mentioned after the peak in December, the traffic will normally stabilize and go down to normal levels.
In my experience, these are slightly higher than before the peak, and you can see that at the moment they’re in the same range as before in the summer.
There is a lot of work to be done on the account to double the traffic before we hit another Q4.
- Monthly Impressions: 79.39 million
- Monthly Outbound Clicks: 221,950
- Monthly Saves: 415,320
- Followers: 258,000
- Group Boards: 20 (under 10%)
