You might think that travel is the last niche that would do well on Pinterest, and you would be completely wrong!
This client has a blog in a micro travel niche, focusing on a popular European destination. With the seasonality that comes with travel, it was essential to plan year-round content that would drive traffic even in the low season months.
Let’s take a look at what I’ve done on this account and why it worked!
Where I Started
This Pinterest account has been neglected for many years and was doing just the bare minimum.
Without proper SEO optimization and focus, it’s no wonder that there was no growth and it was impossible for Pinterest to figure out what interest to associate with the content shared.
Almost none of the content on the account was SEO optimized, boards were randomly selected based on the destinations visited, almost all without descriptions.
Even though the client publishes a large volume of content, most of it has not even been shared on Pinterest.
The great thing was that the images on the blog are very high quality, all original photos, so they will do really well on Pinterest.
I started working on the account in December 2023, and here are the data from analytics for that month:
- Monthly Impressions: 1.02 million
- Monthly Outbound Clicks: 3, 360
- Monthly Saves: 5, 520
- Followers on Account: 4,100
- Group Boards: six

How I Worked on This Account
The first thing that needed to be done was proper keyword research, so I could optimize the account, the boards and the pin images.
In this micro-niche, the process was fairly simple: I created keyword clusters around the country, and then individual regions and cities within the country. Because nobody else structures content on Pinterest this way, it was pretty fast to establish authority in that niche on Pinterest.
The client had a very limited amount of pin images with overlay, and even the existing ones were not great. Without enough contrast, without easy to read fonts or basic graphic elements done right.
I have redesigned pins for some of the most popular topics and planned a posting schedule that would take into account the seasonality of the content but also make sure we cover a broad range of topics instead of just focusing on a single destination at a time.
The client had a total of 13 group boards around generic travel topics, much of which I have archived and left only six of the most relevant and active ones.
This way, I can ensure that we’re not getting an inflated impression count without engagement. That is also the reason why you don’t see a massive jump in impressions since removing the group boards would automatically reduce them.
Why it Worked
Narrowing down the niche focus on this account, with proper SEO optimization, has helped to push this account further in a very short period of time.
The client has the advantage of great original photography, and just needed the right optimization and board selection to get ahead pretty fast.
There is still a huge room for growth as we have not covered all the hidden keyword opportunities in the niche, and my estimates are that this year will be record-breaking on this Pinterest account.

Last 30 Days on the Account
Over the last 4 months, I have achieved steady growth even in what’s considered a highly seasonal niche.
The traffic volume to the travel blog doubled in just four months, and the account is now well-optimized and ready for further growth.
Keep in mind this is a low season for this account, so there is a lot of room for more traffic and optimization opportunities.
- Monthly Impressions: 1.49 million
- Monthly Outbound Clicks: 7,500
- Monthly Saves: 8,330
- Followers on Account: 4,400
- Group Boards: six
