Are you getting a lot of Pinterest messages and you’re not sure how to get rid of them?
In this article, you will find a detailed guide on how to delete Pinterest messages, but also how to stop people from sending you messages in the first place.
I have spent over a decade on the platform, and private messages are by far the most annoying aspect of using Pinterest.
My accounts and also client accounts get spammed with random messages, which are just spammy requests for reposting pins on the account.
I have switched off the messaging features on all my accounts, and will show you how to do the same on yours.

How to Delete Messages on Pinterest?
Let’s cover the most important question first.
How do you delete a message on Pinterest?
Pinterest doesn’t provide an option to select the message and delete, but you have the option to remove it from your message list by clicking on the cross at the end of the row (see screenshot).
This means that the message is not deleted, just hidden from your view and from the list of your recent messages.

How to Decline Messages on Pinterest
If you have switched off the messaging feature on your account (and will show you how below), instead of getting a message, people can still send you message requests.
It kind of defeats the whole purpose of switching off the messaging feature, because you still get a notification, and you still have to click a button to get rid of it.
So instead of getting a message, you will get a message request, which you can accept or decline, and read the message.
I hope that Pinterest gets rid of it completely, and you can enjoy the platform without being spammed by constant messages.

How to Block Messages on Pinterest
If you want to stop receiving messages on Pinterest – and I highly recommend choosing this option – you can update your messages settings in your main account settings.
Under messages, simply toggle off the option to allow others to send you messages.
You don’t need to worry about missing out on any potential opportunities – if there is someone who genuinely wants to speak to you or contact you, they can find your website details and your email contact pretty easily directly from your profile.
The messaging features on Pinterest have been abused for a number of years, and 99% of what you will receive are people sharing their pins with you, hoping that you will repost it on your account.
This is especially true if you have an account with a large following, or lots of group boards.

Reporting Spam on Pinterest
If you’re getting a lot of spammy messages (my account is one of those too), you also have the option to either report the message or conversation, or the block the person.
If the account that’s messaging you receives enough red flags, they might disable their access to the platform.
I consider any requests or message sharing a link to pin a spam, and block everyone who sends these.
You can report a whole conversation too, in my case I normally select the first reason – irrelevant or unwelcome message by someone I don’t know.
