Why are Pinterest Boards Important?
Pinterest boards are an important part of your SEO optimization and one of the best tools for increasing the visibility of your content.
How do they work?
Pinterest boards are like virtual pinboards that hold ideas (pins) you collect from the platform or from the web.
The content you save to your existing boards will then be shown to the followers of your account, or just the followers of that specific board.
Pinterest boards can also be SEO optimized, and rank both in Pinterest platform but also in organic search results, giving you a chance to find new audience for your content easily.
The audience on Pinterest has also the option to search for specific boards using the filters:

Pinterest algorithm also uses boards in their ranking signal, they look at the following:
- the name and the description of the board
- the relationship between the pin and the board to which it has been saved
- content within that specific boards
As you can see, the correct selection of boards with the right names has a huge impact on the performance of your account as a whole.
Do not underestimate the importance of researching and selecting your board properly before you do anything else on your account.
How to Make a Pinterest Board
Creating a Pinterest board is easy, but many people do it incorrectly.
In this section, I will cover step-by-step instructions that will help your new board rank faster!
1. Choose a Keyword For Your Board
In my previous article, I already covered how you should select the keywords for your boards and how many boards you should plan to have.
As you know, board names should be a maximum of two to three words long.
Once you identify your board keyword, you move to step 2.

2. Create a Secret Board
The best way to create a new Pinterest board is to create it as a secret board, optimize it with the correct board description, add top-ranking content to the board, and then publish it.
If you do it this way, you give your board the best chance to rank for the specific keyword, and by having top ranking content already included that you’re helping the algorithm to understand the content faster.
So first, you want to click on the plus sign on your Pinterest profile, and choose to create a board.

Next, add the keyword as your board name, and tick the box to save it as a secret board.
Secret boards are not visible to your audience, only to you.

3. Add Top Performing Pins to Secret Board
Once you click to create a board, Pinterest will open a new window where it will suggest related top performing pins for this keyword.
You want to save 20 – 30 of these pins to your secret board, as that will help the algorithm to understand what your board is about faster.
Do not worry about adding so many repins at the same time, your followers won’t see than as you’re adding them to a secret board.
You shouldn’t also worry about not having your own pins in there just yet – we just want to make sure that the board is fully optimized, before you start adding your own content there.

4. Add SEO Optimized Description
Descriptions on your boards are super important because Pinterest algorithm uses it as one of the ranking signals, and helps it to understand what the board is about.
The best way to do a board description is by looking at related keywords to your board name, and using all of them in the description.
To make the process faster, you can use my free ChatGPT tool where you simply enter your board name, and additional keywords, and it will create SEO optimized descriptions for you.

5. Save Changes & Publish
Once you have optimized your board with the correct name (keyword), with top performing pins for that topic and also SEO optimized description, you can publish the board and start adding your own content to it.
