When Should You Unpin Pins?
The only time I recommend to unpin a pin is if you saved the pin in a wrong board, or you saved the wrong type of content (pin).
This essentially means you’re deleting the pin completely from your profile or board.
What Does Unpin Mean?
As I mentioned above, unpin essentially means you’re deleting the pin.
What’s the difference between deleting and unpinning?
The option to unpin or unsave the pin is only visible and available shortly after you save the pin and it allows you to quickly reverse the action.
After you saved the pin, you can’t go back to your profile to ‘unpin’ it, you will need to use the delete option.
Delete pin has the same impact, but the option to delete the pin is available for all content formats, both your own pins and also repins.
So if you missed your chance to hit ‘unpin’, you can still go back to that pin and delete it manually.
How to Unpin Pins on Mobile App
Click BLACK Save Button: If you tapped the red save a pin on mobile app, and you want to revert the action, the save button changes color to black and it says ‘saved’. (see screenshot below)
Simply click on the black save button and the pin will be removed from your profile.
If you can’t see it anymore, or want to remove an older pin, you need to use the delete function:
- locate the pin you want to delete
- click the pencil icon to edit (you can also edit third party pins)
- click on delete and confirm the choice

How to Unpin Pins on a Desktop
Similar to the mobile app, as soon as you save a pin to your profile, the save this button changes color to black from red.
While you’re still on the same screen, tap the black button again, and you will unpin the pin.
What if it’s not possible anymore? You need to go in and delete the pin:
- tap the pencil icon on the pin to edit
- find the delete button at the bottom of the screen
- click delete and confirm the action

When To Avoid Deleting Pins
You should NEVER delete pins for the following reasons:
- cleaning up your profile
- outdated content
- refreshing the design of the pin
- making pin with new title or description
- moving pin to a new board
