The Proof

Before we get started, I wanted to share screenshots of my analytics on the account I was working with.

I am always 100% transparent and will tell you if I run ads on an account, which wasn’t the case here, so I pulled out also analytics, that shows organic-only traffic.

As you will see from the screenshots, the total increase in outbound clicks was 289%, and after filtering out ‘earned’ traffic from repins and paid traffic (there wasn’t any), it still came to a total increase of 271%.

Pin Clicks vs Pin Inspector: My Review

If you’ve been watching some Pinterest tutorials already, you might be familiar with Pin Inspector.

If you’re wondering which one to get or use, here is a little comparison review of both.

The main difference between them is that Pin Inspector is just software you download to your computer or Mac, and it’s a one-off payment.

It has a lot of different functions, but it doesn’t have all the features you will find in pin clicks.

I also find it less user-friendly compared to PinClicks, and extracting the data from the display is more tricky and time-consuming.

Having said that, it’s only a very inexpensive tool and if you’re on a tight budget I recommend you get it, it will save you a ton of time.

Pin Clicks is something you need to pay for every month, but it has a lot of features you won’t find in Pin Inspector, things like: rank tracker, keyword tracker, annotations on pins, board insights and more.

It is much more comprehensive and user friendly, and it’s well worth the monthly investment, at least for me as I use Pinterest on a daily basis across multiple accounts.

How to Use Pin Clicks to Grow on Pinterest

Pin Clicks has a very simple user interface, and it’s pretty easy to use without watching lengthy tutorials.

I will go through all the features one by one and show you how I use them daily as a blogger and a Pinterest Manager.

1. Keyword & Interest Research

I like to plan my content for 3 months ahead and use pin clicks to figure out which topics to focus on.

I use both keyword and interest research to do that.

In case you’re not sure what’s the difference, keywords are the search phrases people type into Pinterest to find what they need. They are also part of the algorithm which uses them to understand the content.

Interests are a categorization system on Pinterest; they are used as annotations for the content for the algorithm to understand and categorize it correctly and to speed up the delivery of the content to the right audience.

Interest also has its own dedicated landing pages, such as the one shared below, where the platform only recently started showing approximate monthly search volumes, which is a huge game-changer.

Here are just a few examples of Interest pages you can find using the interest search in Pin Clicks:

As you can see, Pinterest now also shows estimated search volumes on each interest page.

If you want to succeed on Pinterest in 2025 and beyond, I highly recommend paying attention to both keywords and interests.

For my keyword research, I type in a broad keyword, like chicken dinner recipes, and see what comes up. 

As you can see, it shows you search volume – this is a search volume for the interest, not the keyword – most of the interests are also individual keywords, so that’s why you’re seeing it displayed here.

You dont need to worry about volume or followers, what you want to check is the popularity filter.

This follows the logic of the Pinterest search bar – so if the keyword suggestions are closer to the top, the keyword has a higher search volume, and this kind of replicates that.

From the list, you can filter for keywords that are popular and then check which individual pins are ranking well for that topic.

The keyword research tab is a gold mine for discovering long tail keywords with higher search volumes, as they are likely to be very easy to rank for.

The interest research is my first source of content ideas since all interest pages have search volumes, but not all keywords have, so you can more accurately judge which topics are worth your time. 

Low search volume is not really a bad thing, as long as you target more than one interest in the same topic you can get very decent traffic even from these pins.

At the moment, there are no filters for the search volumes, and not all of them are populated as you can see from the example above, but you can use the filter for taxonomy and related interest, which will show you the higher-level pages likely to have more search volumes.

From the list, you can click on the arrow to open the interest landing page and see what are the best pins for this topic according to Pinterest.

Keep in mind that these are not the top-ranking pins for that topic, just Pinterest’s own recommendations. To see the top-ranking pins for this topic, use the top pins menu to see them.

2. Finding Top Pins for Keyword

The top pins, together with the interest search tab, are the most valuable parts of pin clicks, and I will tell you why.

If you want to know what pin ranks number one for our keyword chicken dinner recipes, you can’t simply type it into your Pinterest bar.

What you would see is results filtered for your account and your interest.

To see the correct results, you would have to log out of your account, ideally, use a VPN, and then search for it.

Pin clicks make this easier as it shows you the correct ranking for any keyword, which is not influenced by any account history or saved interests.

And how do you use this information? 

You can quickly see what type of designs perform the best, when they’ve been added to the platform, how many saves they have, and even which interests are annotated with them.

Let me show you how to analyze the results and use them to your advantage.

The first thing you want to check is the publishing dates.

As you can see, pin ranking number 2 was published barely a month ago (at the time of writing this article), and they are nearly 6 months old, too.

This is a great sign because Pinterest loves fresh content – if you create a new pin that looks similar to the top-performing ones and optimize it well, you’re likely to get to the top 10 positions because your content is fresher than what’s currently ranking there.

The next thing you want to check is if the pins contain our main keywords and where – in this case, none of them have it in the text overlay, and only a few mention a version of it in the text.

Also, notice that the first two are fresh pins, while the other three are repinned, so the high saves probably contributed to the high-ranking position.

You might also notice that on a lot of topics, the pins ranking a no 1 are not the pins with the highest number of saves.

No amount of engagement will help the content if it’s not properly SEO optimized.

One last thing you want to pay attention to is the pin design of the top 3 – 5 pins – what do they have in common?

In our case, they use the same layout with two images and text overlay in the middle, focused on brown or dark green color tones, with closeups of the food.

When you hover over the designs, you will also see which interests are annotated with that specific pin, and click through on each to see the interest page.

There are other data points on the top pins dashboard, but I don’t really use them, for example the pin score gives you a score based on recency and engagement in relation to other pins in the search.

3. Content Trackers on Pin Clicks

On pic clicks, you have three different types of trackers – rank tracker, search tracker, and your saved pins.

Rank tracker is actually pretty cool, it allows you to track how well you rank for your content for your chosen keywords.

On the premium plan, you can rank up to 25 keywords, and on the more expensive plan it is up to 500 keywords.

I like to use it to track the more broad keywords, as you can see in there – I am not showing you the domain as its client account.

You can also set up a notification that if you drop in ranking, you will get an email so you can look into the issues.

When you click on the keyword, it will also show you a rank ranking history, and you can quickly review the top pins for the keyword by clicking on the date on the right side.

In the search tracker, you can choose what keywords you want to track to discover new keyword ideas.

New keywords are added to the suggested search bar on a regular basis, and this tracker allows you to see them pretty quickly, so you can spot some underutilized content opportunities fast.

Here are a few examples of content I am tracking on the client account.

Finally, you can also use the saved pins section to track your favorite pins or content for inspiration, a handy reference guide in case you need inspiration for some designs or check cool new ideas that you can collect in the same place.

4. Pin Stats

In the pin stats section, you can paste multiple URLs and get the basic analytics as you would see in the top pins section.

This is useful, especially if you want to see how your own pins compare to the competitors or if you happen to come across a good content idea and you want to see how that individual pin performs.

I don’t use this too often because I’m mostly referring to the top pins section, but it’s a handy tool to have if you want to inspect individual pin statistics.

5. Account Research

Finally, the last section that has been added to pin clicks just recently is an ability to check best-performing pins per account and also check their boards.

You need to add the account name, and it will populate the list of keywords with which the account ranks.

It is still a bit of work in progress at the moment, and not all accounts will be showing up data, but it’s a handy guide, especially for the more established accounts that have more data.

The idea is simple – type in the account username and see what keywords they rank for. You need to be careful to type it in correctly; otherwise, you won’t see any results.

Pin Clicks: My Review

I was honestly very surprised how much my workflow improved after I started using Pin Clicks, and obviously there are results to show for it.

I initially thought it will be just a bit more polished version of Pin Inspector, but it offers so much more than that, and it is so much faster to use.

It cut down the time I need for account audits to half, and it allows me to quickly spot less competitive topics and keywords to target.

I can’t honestly recommend it enough!

How to Get Started with Pin Clicks

So you signed up and what now?

The best place to start is checking your best topics / keywords, and see how your content stacks up against top performing pins.

Are you ranking in top 18? If not, analyse what your competitors do better and plan to schedule a new batch of fresh pins for those topics.

For planning your future articles or content, check the keyword research tool and try to identify long tail keywords that do not have that high competition and/or are lacking exact match content in the results.

Finally, you should use the interest research tool to tap into high volume topics and try to rank for those – that’s the fastest way to get a huge chunk of traffic fast.
