If you’re just starting out with Pinterest, it can feel quite overwhelming.
There are so many questions you need answers for!
Questions like:
- how often should I post?
- how should I name my boards?
- can I pin the same content many times?
- should I share repins or just my own content?
- where do I find the best keywords?
- how long does it take for my traffic to grow?
- is Pinterest a good platform for my niche?
Finding the right answers can take some time, especially with the amount of outdated and incorrect information available online.
I know because I’ve been where you are.
Nearly 10 years ago, I was in the wave of first content creators on Pinterest, and the platform was very different.
It was much easier to get massive growth on the platform as there was little competition, and Pinterest was actively encouraging content creators to share their best content and tips.
Over time, I managed to grow my oldest site to 528,000 sessions per month and continue achieving fantastic results for clients of my Pinterest management agency.
Even though things have changed a lot, and the algorithm has undergone massive changes, there are marketing tactics and strategies that still work today, with adjustments.
Key to Success on Pinterest
To fully understand how you succeed on Pinterest, you need to understand how the algorithm works.
Pinterest is a visual search engine, and it needs to scan through billions of pins to find the right ones to show to the audience.
They do that really fast and efficiently using multiple different machine learning models and systems that form part of the core Pinterest algorithm.
And how do I know that?
Unlike Google, Pinterest documents how the algorithm works in very technical engineering articles. Don’t worry, you don’t need a computer science degree to read through them, I’ve done it already.
Below are two extracts from these pages: Search Sage mechanism, which is used to rank content on Pinterest, and Pixxie, which is a recommendations system for Pinterest.

Here is the great news: You don’t need to guess how to please the algorithm, they tell you!
