Have you invested countless hours into your Pinterest strategy and see no real traffic growth?
Are you confused about what you’re doing wrong and why your content just doesn’t work?
Don’t worry – you’re not alone.
Most bloggers make the single mistake of treating Pinterest just like any other social platform, and simply resharing their organic search content.
Unfortunately, that just doesn’t work!
How do I know?
I’ve been doing this for nearly 10 years, and have grown my oldest site to a record-breaking 527,000 monthly sessions last December.
I work with content creators and bloggers on a daily basis as a Pinterest Manager, and see the same mistakes made all over again.
Things like:
- no consistent posting strategy
- poor quality pins
- wrong format of pins
- constant repinning of other content
- zero SEO optimization
- dozens of random group boards
- sharing content from different niches
- treating Pinterest as a personal moldboard
- not giving it the time it needs
But here is the good news: all of these things are easy to fix!
Key to Success on Pinterest
To fully understand how to succeed on Pinterest, you need to understand how the algorithm works.
Why?
Pinterest is a visual search engine powered by an algorithm. The algorithm needs to scan through billions of pins to find the correct content to show to the relevant audience.
They do that quickly and efficiently using multiple machine learning models and systems that form part of the core Pinterest algorithm.
And how do I know that?
Unlike Google, Pinterest documents how the algorithm works in very technical engineering articles. Don’t worry, you don’t need a computer science degree to read through them, I’ve done it already.
Below are two extracts from these pages: Search Sage mechanism, which is used to rank content on Pinterest, and Pixxie, which is a recommendations system for Pinterest.

So the good news is, you don’t need to guess what the algorithm wants, they are happy to tell you!
My Best Pinterest Marketing Tip For Bloggers
And that brings me to my main point – whoever you choose to listen to, make sure their advice is based on data and facts, not personal opinions.
Youtube is full of creators that are trying to catch your attention with click bait headlines, but that’s all there really is – just hooks for your attention, without providing any evidence based advice.
Why is it so important?
If you choose to follow some hacks and tips that are based on experiments, rather than the way the algorithm works, you will be wasting your time and resources chasing the next big marketing hype.
Not only that, but a lot of the marketing tips are completely outdated as the algorithm evolves constantly.
I have studied the algorithm in detail and have nearly 10 years of experience on the platform, so everything you will read here is based on that and nothing else.
